Our mission
At Switchee, we believe that everyone deserves to live in a decent home and that the environments we inhabit have a massive influence on our ability to enjoy life and prosper.
One in five households in the UK live in social housing, a sector with the right values at its core but that has historically struggled to deploy innovations in the home. Many residents still can’t afford to heat their homes and live in cold, mouldy properties they can’t be proud of.
We believe that radical innovation in connected technology can ensure that every resident, every day, is living in a home that allows them to succeed. That’s why our products are built not just on great technology, but on an understanding of what people want from the space they live in.
This approach led us to reimagine the most mundane household object - a thermostat - into a product that reduces energy bills, looks great and offers control to those who want it. We are also revolutionising the way social landlords manage their housing stock with an obsessively tailored SaaS property dashboard and handy alerts on things like when the boiler is going to break.
Our next project is to build the ultimate connected hub for the social home. It’s going to revolutionise the way residents interact with their homes and landlords manage their properties.
Our Journey
We may be only 8 years old, but it’s already been quite a ride. Our first product, the connected Switchee Smart Thermostat is already in over 100 of the UK’s biggest housing providers.
We’re growing 100% year on year and are backed by some of the best-known investors in technology and social impact. We are a small team of 70+ passionate and ambitious people driven by a collective desire to make a positive impact in the housing sector, both for residents and landlords.
The role
We are looking for a Delivery and Release Manager with a background in B2B SaaS. As a key Switchee’s Product team, you will have responsibility for:
The delivery and release cycles of our physical and digital product range, including our thermostat hardware and embedded software, our SaaS offering, and internal tools
Our grant applications and delivery of grant-funded technology projects
You will report to the Product Lead and work with our other product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to execute on the strategy.
As a Delivery and Release Manager, your core responsibility is to collaborate closely with our Operations, Customer, Marketing, and Engineering teams. You ensure the efficient delivery of our software and device releases by crafting detailed plans, coordinating activities, and monitoring dependencies. You emphasise open communication within our cross-functional teams and use data to evaluate release success. Lastly, you play a crucial role in us learning from each release, helping us improve and replicate successes.
We are at the cutting edge of social housing adoption of new technologies and operating models, helping landlords proactively address issues such as mould and damp and playing a critical role in getting the sector to net zero carbon emissions.
Switchee operates a small, close-knit team with a big job to do so you'll be expected to roll-up your sleeves and get stuck in!
At Switchee your growth and development will be the focal point for your quarterly performance and progression conversations with your manager. We will encourage you to reflect on our Career Development Framework to enable you to grow in line with your scope of role and responsibilities. Our CDF is divided into levels where a selection of expected behaviours describes your ability to move up on the career ladder for your role.
Your responsibilities
Collaborate with stakeholders to create release plans.
Schedule and manage release activities, monitor dependencies, and facilitate communication.
Identify and address release-related risks, and develop contingency plans.
Maintain up-to-date release documents such as release notes and user guides.
Promote open communication among development, QA, and operations teams and share updates with stakeholders.
Lead incident response efforts to minimise operational impact during failures or incidents.
Manage device trial processes and maintain communication throughout trials.
Manage technology supplier relationships to ensure timely product and service delivery.
Research, apply for, and manage project grants, ensuring compliance and efficient fund utilisation.
Collaborate with grant officers and partners and prepare final grant reports.
Who You Are
We're looking for 3+ years of previous experience managing agile software and/or hardware product deliveries, ideally with some knowledge of social housing/energy/sustainability. You've probably acted as a scrum master at some point, and you're happiest when you're spotting and plugging gaps, doing whatever is needed to help the team succeed.
You’ll be a great fit if you:
Are skilled in crafting release plans, coordinating release activities and timelines, and managing dependencies effectively.
Demonstrate expertise in product technology for seamless communication with development teams.
Excel in communication and interpersonal relationships, building strong connections with others.
Embrace rapid learning, easily grasping technical intricacies, bureaucratic processes (e.g., DESNZ grant procedures), logistical challenges (e.g., field trials), and more.
Naturally exhibit organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Embody a "Get things done" attitude and thrive in an adaptable, fast-paced, and ever-changing environment.
Display proactive, self-directed behaviour with enthusiasm for seeing projects through to successful completion.
Fearlessly deliver challenging or unfavourable news to stakeholders of various seniority levels.
Bonus points for:
Experience running agile and/or waterfall software projects (PRINCE2 or certified scrum master nice-to-have)
Experience in running incident response teams in response to breaches and unsuccessful deployments
Knowledge of product tools including Jira, Confluence, and ProductBoard
Data analysis experience with tools such as PowerBI and Mixpanel
Experience managing external partner organisations, both collaborators and customers
Experience building IoT products, data science-driven products, and running field trials
Proven ability to get up to speed quickly in a complicated domain
Degree in a related discipline
These are ideal but not required - we don’t expect any candidate to tick all these boxes and will happily consider applicants who we believe can successfully grow into the role.
P.S Switchee is a Disability Confident Employer and we aim to provide reasonable adjustments for our new hires to ensure they are successful and supported in their roles.
Application Process:
2. Technical Interview - with Jackson (Product Lead) & member of the Product team
3. Culture Fit interview - with Olya (Head of People) & Ian (Head of Product Engineering).
To prepare for the interview stages, review all the available information about Switchee online, and our careers website and most importantly, prepare real-life examples of having dealt with the responsibilities listed in the job description.
